Your arrival in Malta and your travels in general:

Several options will be available to you for the transfer from the airport to your accommodation but also to move around the island:

"White" taxis

Take a "white" taxi directly from the airport. As soon as you arrive at the airport you will see almost opposite you a small cabin where you can pay for your transfer to your accommodation, the taxi will be just at the entrance to the airport which is convenient and the cost of transfer from the airport to the Sliema/St Julian's area does not exceed 20 euros.

However, it is possible that the queue may be large if many flights arrive at the same time. During your trip, you will see them parked at tourist places, we advise you to agree on the price before leaving.

The mobile application of VTC: Bolt

By far the simplest, most efficient and economical Bolt (formerly Taxify) is the equivalent of Uber. You can download the mobile application, geolocate yourself and take your transfer via the app as soon as you arrive in the airport, a driver will be available immediately, in general, Bolt drivers wait on the parking lot on your left at the airport exit. The cost of the transfer for the Sliema/St Julian's area varies from 15 euros to 18 euros. You can also use the app for all your trips on the island, the drivers are responsive and usually there in less than 5 minutes. You have the possibility to enter your credit card to pay for your trips or to choose to pay in cash.

The VTC application: Ecabs

eCabs are the black cars of a private transport company in Malta. It is one of the ideal solutions if you need to book transportation in advance. Professional, punctual drivers and comfortable cars. eCabs also offers vehicles suitable for people with reduced mobility.
eCabs transportation is a little more expensive than Bolt or Cool, but offers the security of advance booking. eCabs now offers pink vehicles, with female drivers to accompany a mainly female clientele.

Public transport: Bus

If your budget is tighter, you can take the bus. The stops are outside the airport and you can take your ticket directly on the bus. Try to have the extra, bus drivers are not always the most friendly and do not like to change so much. A bus ticket costs 1.50 euros in winter, 2 euros in summer, 3 euros at night.

You can get an Explorecard for 21 euros which gives you unlimited access to the bus for 7 days.

For a longer stay, we advise you to obtain the Tallinja card which can be obtained online via the Malta transport website: https://www.publictransport.com.mt

You can also obtain it via a sales office : https://www.publictransport.com.mt/en/our-sales-and-information-points-and-terminals

You will find the points of sale and opening hours. You can also download the Tallinja application which will allow you to know bus schedules and waiting times, but also to recharge your card by credit card from the application.

Rent a car

Don't forget, the steering wheel is on the right, and we're driving on the left! You can rent a car via the classic car rental companies directly at the airport or book online before your departure (Europcar, Avis etc) or you will find car rental companies all over the island, prices vary according to the season (more expensive in summer) and can range from 15-20 euros per day to over 30 euros. You will also find small independent rental shops all over the island, they are often cheaper and more convenient on time.

You can also rent an electric car (Renault Zoé) on-demand via the GOTO application: registration is done via the application with a photo of your licence. Via the map, you can see if cars are available nearby, your application also serves as a key to open.

Carpooling via Cool.mt

The cool.mt application will allow you to share a VTC with other people to reduce the cost of transportation. They are based in more than 3000 points on the island and just have to wait for several passengers to take you there. You will see the points directly through the application, practical and economical.

Take the boat shuttles

Of course, most of the movement on the island is done on land, however it is necessary to take a boat to get to the islands of Comino and Gozo. To do this, you can go to the ferry at Cirkewwa in Malta.
The round trip to Gozo is €4.65 and takes about 30 minutes. The fare to Comino is about €10 round trip. Ferry departures are about every 45 minutes, although at peak times you can find boats every 20 minutes. Normally, after 8:00 pm, the frequency of ferries decreases considerably.

It is also possible to leave from Valletta or the port of Sliema.

Valletta - Sliema by Ferry

In order to reach Sliema from Valletta or vice-versa, you have the possibility to take the ferry, rather than the bus. In addition to enjoying the crossing with a view on the fortifications of Valletta and Manoel Island, you will also save a lot of time during the rush hours on the roads.

Valletta - The 3 Cities

The ferry also allows you to reach Valletta and the 3 Cities. The 3 Cities are 3 cities located in front of Valletta. They are three fortified towns that represent Malta's maritime history but also a link to the past, with their churches, bastions and palaces.
